Senior Employment Programs Information

Employers value the talents older workers bring to the workplace and are looking for people like you.  If you are 55 or older with a low income, local organizations are ready to help you refresh your job skills and reenter the workforce.

If you meet program enrollment eligibility requirements, you’ll be placed in a part-time 20-hour a week community service assignment to gain experience.  You can serve your community -- at libraries, hospitals, senior centers and other local organizations or government entities -- while expanding your skills and earning an income.

Our local Senior Employment Program staff will help you secure the training you need and will assist you in making the transition to a job that’s right for you.

The income you will earn while on your assignment is the Federal Minimum Wage, which is currently $7.25 an hour.

You will fill out an application, and a staff member will discuss with you what your job goal is and how to best reach that goal.

Participants in the Senior Employment Program can also sign up for workshops available at the Minnesota Workforce Center - Duluth.  The location of the Workforce Center is -

    Room 205
    Government Services Center
    320 West Second Street
    Duluth MN 55802

Workshops include Creative Job Search, Resume Writing, and Interviewing Skills.  Participants can also use the computers in the Resource area to look for jobs, posting a resume, and other job search-related tasks.  There is a staff member available during regular hours willing to assist you.

The Workforce Center is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays.
